A Tremor in the Fabric of Space

Set in a cyber-khilafat, Abida is a sprawling sci-fi, Sufi-punk graphic novel on ghairat, memory, and sound.

About Abida

With multiple, criss-crossing arcs, hidden identities, political intrigue, and high-octane action, Abida is the ultimate fight for our souls. Puffball Comics' debut comic series—Abida is our wild gamble in imagining a South Asian Muslim future. It is also a story grappling with the ruins of an ancient world: technofascism, violence, and belonging. With a strict no-AI policy, written, drawn, inked, designed, and lettered by hand in our studio in Lahore, Abida is the culmination of Puffball's decade-long pursuit of original, homegrown, speculative storytelling.

First Issue

As the city mourns the death of the khalifa, a rogue ex-Recordkeeper leads a precision hack into the body of a living data-priest, and Director Ismail is charged with hunting him down before the heretics destroy the very foundation the order of the Khilafat rests upon. But among the bio-hackers is Abida, a gifted young woman who hears something hidden inside the stolen prophecy: a forbidden sound believed lost for generations.
